Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed some time off! Below you will find a copy of our agenda for the week. Students initially copied Math Journal pg. 94 for tonight's homework, but I forgot they would need to review their study guide for their Multiplication Post-Test tomorrow. I explained that they could replace that assignment with studying in their agenda, but if they chose to complete the math journal page (94), they could earn 3 bonus Dojo Points. Our Multiplication Post-Test will be tomorrow. We completed a study guide together today in class. You can download the {blank version} and the {answer key} for reviewing at home if you need an additional copy. Students will complete this on Schoology, as we have been doing our other tests. Soon, we will begin working on timed multiplication tests, so students should begin strategies to memorize their facts up to 10x10. This week, we are beginning to learn the multiplication songs that go to the Just Dance videos. You can access those by going to the Student Sites tab on my webpage. You can also download a copy of the words to these songs. We are also working on Math 4 Today Week #13 this week. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. For our content lessons, we will begin discussing representing division and finding an unknown value represented by a variable (algebra). In science, we are discussing electromagnets. Students will conduct a lab, creating their own electromagnets, and will complete the lesson check for a classwork grade on Thursday.
Students also started MAP testing today in the Math Computer lab. They will test each Monday (Math) and Thursday (Reading) for the next few weeks until they finish each test. Please encourage your student to take their time and do their best so that they are sure to meet the goal we have set for this testing window. Please make sure that if possible, your student is here each Monday and Thursday during this testing window. I am eager to see the progress they have made since Fall testing.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. **I was only here for the Living Museum session of my homeroom (I had to go on the Wofford field trip with the girls basketball club), but I have shared the photos and videos I have through Dojo. I am including several downloads that will allow your student to practice this at home, if you wish. Foldables: Triangular Prism Square Pyramid Cylinder Rectangular Prism Cone Cube Triangular Pyramid Identifying deconstructed nets: Practice Sheet #1 Practice Sheet #2 Practice Sheet #3 In Science we just started our new chapter on Electricity & Magnetism. On Friday, I gave each table group a D-cell battery, 2 wires, and a bulb and told them to "light the bulb". While it was very frustrating for them at first, the inquiry in this activity allows for such an authentic learning experience. In the end, all students experienced creating a circuit that would light the bulb. Please enjoy the pictures I captured Friday during this activity.
There are numerous videos and simulations that go along with this chapter. Please use the links below to review this information at home.
