Good morning. This week's homework can be found on the agenda pages below. Please notice that students should review for their Core Bites test tonight as part of their homework. After every 15 Core Bites lessons, we have a test. We completed the Study Guide together in class today. They have this in their blue folder. We are also working on Math 4 Today Week #10 this week. We will complete that study guide together on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. Our focus this week in math will be on 2D and 3D shapes. There are some Brain Pop, Jr. and Study Jams videos that go along with this: Plane Figures Solid Figures Edges, Faces, & Vertices The most difficult concept for third graders to grasp is identifying the deconstruction of nets. I am including several downloads that will allow your student to practice this at home, if you wish. Foldables: Triangular Prism Square Pyramid Cylinder Rectangular Prism Cone Cube Triangular Pyramid Identifying deconstructed nets: Practice Sheet #1 Practice Sheet #2 Practice Sheet #3 In Science we just started our new chapter on Electricity & Magnetism. On Friday, I gave each table group a D-cell battery, 2 wires, and a bulb and told them to "light the bulb". While it was very frustrating for them at first, the inquiry in this activity allows for such an authentic learning experience. In the end, all students experienced creating a circuit that would light the bulb. Please enjoy the pictures I captured Friday during this activity.
There are numerous videos and simulations that go along with this chapter. Please use the links below to review this information at home.

Students have these with their graded test papers and Dojo Reports. Please sign the report and return it tomorrow. Thanks so much!

This week's homework can be found below on the agenda pages.
In math, we are beginning our unit on geometry. We are working on Math 4 Today Week #9. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and the test will be on Friday as usual.
We are starting a new chapter in science about electricity and magnetism. You can download the parent letter about this chapter by clicking here. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks! Good morning! The homework for the week can be found on the agenda pages below. Please remember that students do not have school on Friday to allow for parent/teacher conferences. With that being said, our weekly Math 4 Today test has been moved to Thursday instead of Friday. Please be aware and study with your students Wednesday night, rather than Thursday. In math, we are continuing to work on fractions. Students are responsible for representing fractions, comparing fractions, and identifying equivalent fractions. We have worked on several strategies in class to help them with these skills. We will complete our fractions post test this week to compare with the pre-tests they completed at the beginning of the unit. (All pre and post tests will be sent home in their data folders with report cards on October 25th. We are working on Math 4 Today Week #8 this week. We will complete our study guide on Wednesday and as said above, our test will be on Thursday of this week. In science, we will be on a 2 day schedule since have watershed and guidance this week, along with the teacher workday on Friday. With that being said, we will not begin a new unit this week. Our next unit is on Electricity & Magnetism.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. We are looking forward to a great week of learning!
Hello! This week's homework can be found on the agenda pages below. Students have their Dojo Reports, graded papers, school picture proofs, vision screening results, and 3rd grade newsletter in their mail folder today. Please be sure to review this, sign it and return it tomorrow.
In math this week, we are working on comparing fractions and understanding equivalent fractions. This can be a difficult concept for 3rd graders, but we will continue practicing this until they get it. We are working on Math 4 Today Week #7. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual.
This is a big week in science, as we have completed our Chapter 1 study on Matter and heat. We will do several review activities this week to prepare for their Chapter test on Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday, students will use this review passage to complete a matter flipbook. This information can be used as review for the test. We will also complete a practice test in class on Thursday and go over it together. Students can use this test as their study guide Thursday night. This is a good bit of information, so I encourage students to begin studying now rather than waiting until Thursday night to cram. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help out in any way! |
My dream is to create a 21st Century classroom that encourages collaboration, integrates technology, and promotes thinking deeply.
