This week in Math, we are working on a review packet of all standards to prepare for SC Ready testing. Please continue to review basic multiplication facts with your student on a daily basis. Many of them are "out of practice" from Spring break and have forgotten some of the basic facts. We will have another Turner Timed Test on Wednesday. {5 minutes - 100 facts}. We are also working on Math 4 Today #31. We will complete the study guide on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. In Science, we are continuing with our life science unit. Students will complete the Chapter 5 Lesson 2 check independently this week for a classwork grade. We will play some in class, but I encourage you to let your students explore and practice at home as well. It really helps develop a better understanding of the components of a food chain! I am sending graded papers, Dojo reports, and 3rd Grade newsletters home today. Please be sure to sign them and return them tomorrow. Also - I will included the field trip form for payment. The cost of the trip will be $28 per student. This is due by May 5. Please do not send in the form until you send in your payment. Today is day 8 for the eggs in the Incubator. We are looking at an approximate hatch date of April 28 (They usually hatch a few days early b/c of collection/delivery time.) The kids are super excited and love checking on the progress of the eggs each day. Students have really been enjoying our new VIP table! I have seen a great improvement in behavior as they try to earn VIP Seating. They also have their coupons for Dojo Rewards that they are still using, and they can also be chosen to "Pick a Pass" (teal passes). They seem to be excited about the changes I have made to our rewards. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this week of instruction. Please remember that Interims will be sent home on Wednesday. They need to be signed and returned on Thursday, please. Have a great week!
We started this STEM Challenge by discussing the words engineering and foundation. We learned several fun facts about the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Then students spent 10 minutes in complete engagement building their towers of peeps. We then recorded measurements, created a graph, and answered some questions from the graph. Afterwards, we evaluated each group, and our own group. They did a phenomenal job! Please enjoy the pictures below! Good afternoon! Please see the images below regarding two important requests.
The agenda page for this week can be found below. Please notice the changes with homework. We will NOT have a math journal page for homework this week. Remember you can download an additional copy of the Quick Check homework by clicking on the photo below.
In Science this week, we are continuing with our life science unit. We will complete lesson 1 about habitats and move into lesson 2 about food chains. The following links are great resources to allow your child to practice more from home. Brain Pop, Jr. – Food chains Study Jams – Food Webs The Food Chain Game In Math, we are working on review of all standards to prepare for the upcoming SC Ready test. We will continue working with math 4 Today. This week we are completing week #30. We will review the study guide on Thursday and our test will be on Friday. Please continue to work on multiplication facts as well. Our 3rd grade newsletter can be found below. A paper copy will also be sent home today with Dojo reports and graded papers. Please be sure to sign these and return them tomorrow. Students are VERY excited about all of our special deliveries today. We received our materials for the Donor's Choose projects that were funded -- some AWESOME materials for the VIP table. We also received our incubator, fertile eggs, and learning materials for our 4-H Embryology Project. Once the temperature regulates in our incubator, I will places the eggs inside, and we will learn all about the chicken's life cycle for the next 21 days. What a wonderful hands-on learning experience to go along with our life science unit! As always, please feel free to message me if you have any questions or concerns for this week. Hope you all are having an amazing Monday!
