Hello. This week's homework assignments can be found on the agenda image below. Please remember you can click on the image to download an additional copy of the homework sheets for the week. Students received graded test papers, 3rd grade newsletters, and Dojo reports today. Please be sure to sign these and return them tomorrow. In Science, we are completing lesson 3 of Chapter 4, which teaches students about how people change Earth's surface, especially with pollution. Students will complete the lesson check with their groups on Thursday.
In Math, we will have our Turner Timed Test tomorrow. Students should try to beat their score from last time. If you need your student's grade, please feel free to email me. We are working on Math 4 Today #25 this week. We will complete the study guide on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. We are also learning about different types of graphs: pictographs, bar graphs, and line plots. This week, we are only focusing on pictographs and bar graphs. There are some great videos on Brain Pop, Jr that go along with this: https://jr.brainpop.com/math/data/ Also - please remember that we are currently MAP testing in both reading and math. We test in the math lab on Mondays and the reading lab on Thursdays. Please stress the importance of this test to your students and remind them to take their time and do their best. Please let me know if you have any additional questions! Thanks!

Homework for the week can be found below. Please note that our Math 4 Today test will be on Thursday this week instead of Friday since we will be participating in Diversity Day activities all day.
In science, students are working to complete their Lesson Check for Chapter 4 Lesson 2 about Earth's Water. We will also begin our next lesson with a quick lab on Thursday. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I hope everyone has a great week!
We had a great 2017 Science Fair! You can click on the photo above to view the video of winners from each category. We had a total of 128 projects this year -- 43 in chemistry, 40 in physics, 7 in math/computer science, 11 in general, 11 in behavioral, and 16 in biology. Our homerooms (Mitchell & Burnette) contributed 16 of the 128 projects! I was very proud! One of my favorite things to do is have them take "Science Fair Selfies". They always have so much fun doing it and I always love looking at them! Hope you all enjoy as well! Hello! This week's homework can be found on the agenda page below. Clicking on the photo will download an additional copy of the homework sheets. The Math 4 Today Study Guide #23 is also available to download. Our test will be on Friday.
We are continuing to practice multiplication every day in class. Please do the same at home. Our next Turner Timed Test is scheduled for February 28th. We are also working on our measurement unit in math. This week, we will focus on estimating and measuring liquid volumes. The Brain Pop, Jr. video is a great resources, however, we will also discuss milliliters and liters as part of our unit.
https://jr.brainpop.com/math/measurement/cupspintsquartsgallons/ In Science, we are continuing our study of Chapter 4 - Earth's resources. We are working in Lesson 2, which discusses water sources on Earth and how we use those resources, pollute those resources, and purify those resources. Students will complete the Lesson Check for a classwork grade on Thursday. Newsletters, Dojo reports, and graded papers are being sent home today. Please sign them and return them tomorrow. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me! I am including the Valentine list again for your convenience. It is also printed on the back of the newsletter again. Students may bring in Valentine's tomorrow and we will exchange during our first period.. This week's homework can be found listed on the agenda pages below. You can click on the agenda photo to download an additional copy of the homework sheets.
In Science, we are continuing with the lesson about natural resources. Tomorrow, students will work to complete the lesson check up with their groups. The remainder of the week, we will work on the natural resources writing prompt as previously discussed. Please refer to the previous post for further information: http://3-burnette.weebly.com/burnettes-blog/writing-in-science
We will have a Turner Timed Test in math tomorrow. Students have set goals to beat their scores from our first test session. Please continue to practice these basic facts at home! We are finishing up our lessons about angles and 3D figures. Once we complete all of the components for these topics, we will move on to telling time and determining elapsed time. The best practice for this skill is real world problems. Have your child randomly tell you the time throughout the day. Also, have them figure out the amount of time between two events. There are several great Brain Pop, Jr. videos and activities that would be a wonderful review for them at home: https://jr.brainpop.com/math/time/ We are working on Math 4 Today #22 this week. We will complete the study guide in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. We will also have a Core Bites test on Wednesday. We will complete the study guide in class tomorrow. Also - please remember that science fair projects are due next Tuesday, February 14 by 8:15am. (In the event your students is absent or tardy, please be sure that projects are turned in by this time.) Students that complete a science fair project will receive 2 extra credit 100s in Science. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or comments. I am looking forward to a great week! As you are all aware, I have been working with Ms. Mitchell to integrate a focus on writing skills within our Science content. (We are hopeful that this integration and extra practice will improve their writing skills and help prepare them for the writing portion of state testing.) We have achieved this integration through the use of COPS on the Lesson Checks we complete with each Science Lesson. Students are continually reminded of these expectations with the anchor charts posted in my room. I have modeled expectations for their writing on these assignments and I patrol and give tickets while students are working.
Also, in an effort to help distribute the 'weight' of each question, I have added a multiple choice component to the back of these assignments. Since their writing skills, short answer questions, and multiple choice questions will be weighted differently, I will included a "Grading Breakdown" at the bottom of each assignment.
As I mentioned in my Monday Message, we will also be working on a Text Dependent Writing Prompt this week in Science. I will use the following passages and prompt to model the process. Conservation Article Human Influence Read the two passages about conservation. Write an essay describing ways that you can conserve resources at your home or school and explain why it is important to conserve resources. Be sure to cite evidence from the text in your answer. Next week, students will complete their own Text Dependent writing using two articles about natural resources. I have created several presentation slides to use for instruction as I model the process with them this week. I have included them below so that you can reinforce these skills when students are writing at home. I know this is a great deal of information, so please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns you may have! Thanks!
