Congratulations to the following students from Burnette/Mitchell for receiving the Kiwanis award! If your student’s name is not listed below…it’s NOT too late! We will continue to test until the end of the school year! I am attaching the Kiwanis test so that you can practice at home.
General Hall led all of the students in a "Hip Hip...Hooray" chant after receiving their medals. I am so proud of them ALL!

Good morning! I am attaching the homework sheet, third grade newsletter, and multiplication log for the week. Please be reminded that Friday is the last day to turn in box tops! This morning we had our Kiwanis Medalist ceremony. 36 students from our team (Burnette/Mitchell) were awarded with 100% mastery of multiplication facts! That is 77% of our team! Students have been encouraged to continue working hard until the end of the year. We will still award those that make it! In Science, we are completing our study guide for food chains today. Our test will be tomorrow. I have attached the study guide for your convenience. We will be reviewing for PASS the remainder of the week. In Math, we are continuing with our review for PASS testing. We will be playing a really cool Jeopardy game each day. I hope to make this review fun for them! Please be reminded that we will begin PASS Testing next week (May 6 – 8). Students should get plenty of rest each night, eat a good breakfast, and dress comfortably. Please call or email if you have any questions or concerns about testing. I know these kids are ready and will do awesome! Dojo reports and graded test papers will come home today. Please sign and return tomorrow. Thanks and have a blessed day!
Good morning! I have attached the DREAM homework sheet, Third Grade newsletter, and Multiplication log for the week. I failed to send home the new multiplication log on Friday, so I have instructed students to “X” through the weekend block. In Science, we are working on Food Chains. We originally planned to test this week, however, we will not be able to finish the unit in time. Our test will be next Tuesday, April 29th. Students are responsible for knowing the following vocabulary terms: producer, consumer, decomposer, predator, prey, carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, food chain, and food web. The links below will be helpful: (Login - Discus14; Password - Research)http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/foodchain/preview.weml http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/ecosystems/food-chains.htm http://www.brainpop.com/science/ecologyandbehavior/foodchains/ http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/ecosystems/food-webs.htm Also remember there is an AWESOME food chain game that I have listed under the Student Sites of our website. (www.3-burnette.weebly.com) In Math, we are working on Math 4 Today Week #28. Our test will be on Friday, as usual. We are going back and reviewing rounding because I have noticed that this is a troublesome area for most of the class. The links below are great rounding review: http://www.brainpopjr.com/math/numbersense/rounding/preview.weml http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/math/problem-solving/psestimate-whole-numbers.htm We will also be working in small groups again this week according to our weaknesses determined by the MAP test. Ask your student if they know what strand they are lowest in. The children LOVE working in groups, and I love seeing them work with their groups constructively. I also enjoy getting to work with them in a more one on one setting (when I meet with their group). We work on the dry erase slates – they really seem to benefit from this! Dojo reports and graded test papers will be sent home today. Please sign and return them by tomorrow. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!
Check out this picture from Berry College's eagle photographer. Thank goodness Mama Eagle was there to fight off the hawk coming after Baby Eagle! You can view the eagle cam live at www.berry.edu/eaglecam. They have also added a camera in a bluebird nest on campus. I'm hooked!
When we hatched chicks last time, Mrs. Amick (our speech teacher) told her Dad about our project. He raises and hatches chickens, so he sent a dozen eggs for us to hatch again. They are Frizzle and Ameracuana Bantum eggs (much smaller). The kids were excited to see the different type of eggs and curious about hatching them. The chicks were not "due" to hatch until tomorrow (Thursday), but during our test yesterday we began hearing some chirping. We went back to the incubator and found 2 baby chicks! This morning when I came in, there were 4 more...and another hatched during testing today. We are up to 7 chicks now! I still have the other eggs in the incubator in hopes that they come out on their "due date" tomorrow! I caught the one during testing on video! Hope you enjoy watching! Good morning! Attached you will find the third grade newsletter, Dream Worksheet, and Multiplication Log for the week. In Science, we will complete our study on habitats. We will have an assessment tomorrow - we reviewed and completed the study guide together in class today. I have also attached it for your convenience. After our assessment, we will begin our unit on Food Chains. We will learn about carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, producers, consumers, decomposers, predators, prey, etc. There are several Brain Pop Jr. clips and Study Jams that are helpful: (Login - Discus14; Password - Research) http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/foodchain/preview.weml http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/ecosystems/food-chains.htm http://www.brainpop.com/science/ecologyandbehavior/foodchains/ http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/ecosystems/food-webs.htm There is also an AWESOME food chain game that I have listed under the Student Sites of our website. (www.3-burnette.weebly.com) In Math, we are working on Math 4 Today Week #27. We will have the assessment on Friday afternoon. We will also continue working in our small groups according to our weaknesses on MAP Testing if time allows. This week, students will be completed a set of Mock PASS Tests in each subject area. (Tuesday - Reading; Wednesday - Math; Thursday - Science; Friday - Social Studies) Please encourage your child to do their very best. Although this is only a "mock test", it is still very important and it will be an excellent review and test prep for the "real thing"! Dojo reports will be sent home along with graded test papers today. Please remember to sign them and return them tomorrow. Multiplication logs and DREAM worksheets are due Friday as usual. I encourage you to revisit the Eagle Cam site. The eaglet is growing and experts say that it is almost the size of "Dad" now, so they are predicting that the baby is a girl! I can't get over how fast it has grown! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Have a blessed day!
We went to the library today to research habitats. The kids did an amazing job – Ms. Beech was very impressed! I can’t wait to get back from Spring Break so the students can share their research and findings with their classmates! Ask your student which habitat they researched – see if they can remember an animal that can be found in that habitat and an interesting fact they found! Students used different books that Ms. Beech had pulled for us, but the main website we used was: http://wwf.panda.org/about_our_earth/ecoregions/about/habitat_types/habitats/ If you have free time over spring break, let your kids visit the website and read about the other habitats! *Special thanks to Ms. Beech for fitting us into her schedule and helping us become research and habitat experts! We LOVE visiting the library! |
My dream is to create a 21st Century classroom that encourages collaboration, integrates technology, and promotes thinking deeply.
