Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Information regarding this week can be found below. This week's homework is listed on the agenda page shown. Please remember that you can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the photo, in the event you need replacement copies. In math this week, we will work on Math 4 Today #14. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday. Please remember to continue practicing addition and subtraction with borrowing and regrouping for our Quick Check practice. Students work on this every day for homework, have additional practice in class, and then are assessed each Friday. When students show their work for checking with the opposite operation, they can earn 1/2 of a bonus point for each problem they work out. We are also working with our introduction to multiplication and division in class. Students have been learning about the different methods for solving these problems: equal groups, arrays, repeated addition/subtraction, and skip counting. Once we learn all about the mechanics of multiplication and division, we will begin memorizing the facts for our timed tests. I encourage you to begin practicing these facts at home each day!
In science, we are beginning a new chapter about Earth's Surface. You can learn more about this chapter and see vocabulary words in the "School to Home Letter". This week, we are working on Lesson 1 about Rocks and Minerals. There are several great videos/tutorials that go along with this. Please feel free to allow your student to review them at home:
Newsletters, Dojo Reports, and graded test papers are also being sent home today. Please be sure to sign these and return them tomorrow. (Lunch notices are also attached for those that owe money or have low balances). Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks and have a great week!

Happy Thanksgiving Week! Below you will find the agenda pages for this week. The only homework is to study for the Chapter 2 science test and get Dojo Reports signed. We will not complete Math 4 Today this week, so there will not be a test. We will be working on real-world math problems that apply to Thanksgiving. Today, students used multiplication facts to color a picture of a turkey. Tomorrow after our science test, we will make a Thanksgiving meal guest list and figure out how much turkey to prepare, create a shopping list and complete a logic puzzle to figure out Thanksgiving favorites.
Please remember that you can study for the science test in several ways listed below. Students also have a paper copy of the study guide to help them prepare. Remember a signed study guide is worth 5 bonus points on the test!
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Third grade newsletter can also be downloaded for your convenience. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. I am VERY thankful for each of your children -- they are each a blessing to me! Next Tuesday, November 22, we will have our science test on Chapter 2 - Electricity & Magnetism. We completed our study guide together in class today. Below, I have compiled additional resources for preparing for this test. Use the green links to access each of them. *Students may review vocabulary words using Quizlet: Chapter 2 Quizlet Vocabulary Review *Students may take their science books home to study, or I have also assigned the chapter reading to them using the online resources for our textbook. They can access this by going to: Pearson Realize Chapter 2 - Electricity & Magnetism I have given them a handout that has their login ID and password. If you have trouble locating it, please feel free to email me and I can respond with their information. *Students also have access to the study guide questions as a game through Quizizz. Please follow the link to access: Quizizz Chapter 2 Study Guide Review 1. Open https://join.quizizz.com in your browser 2. Enter the 6-digit game code 572026, and click "Proceed" 3. Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! This week's homework can be found on the agenda page below. Please remember that you can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the photo. In Science, we are finishing up chapter 2 with several hands-on investigations and also vocabulary review. Tomorrow, students will complete the lesson 4 check up with their groups for a classwork grade. On Wednesday, they will investigate electromagnets by building their own with insulated wire, a bolt, and a D-cell battery. Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to vocabulary review with Quizlet and completing our Chapter 2 Study Guide. Our Chapter 2 test will be next Tuesday.
This week in math, we are working on Math 4 Today #13. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. We are also going to begin our standard focus on representing multiplication. Through our core bites and math 4 today practice, we have already started learning how to multiply by 0s, 1s, 2s, and 10s. We will slowly begin to work other fact strands. After Christmas, we will begin the "Turner Timed Tests" where Assistant Principal, Mrs. Turner, will come in to test them on 100 facts in 5 minutes. Students who are able to score 100% on this test will be recognized at the end of the years as a Kiwanis Multiplication Medalist. We will learn several skip counting songs to help them memorize the tricky facts. Students should be encouraged to MEMORIZE the facts rather than having to count on their fingers or draw arrays. The more you allow them to practice at home, the more successful they will be! There are several great apps for multiplication fact practice or old fashioned flashcards are also great. You can print practice tests to help them study as well. Happy Monday, everyone! Please remember that there is no school tomorrow due to the Presidential Election. This week's homework can be found on the agenda page below. Remember that you can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the agenda photo. This week in Science, we are working on Chapter 2 Lesson 4, which explores electromagnets. Together we will explore transforming and transferring energy to build a motor using a battery, wire, a magnet, paperclips, and a rubber band. I know students will thoroughly enjoy this activity and come away with a deeper understanding of the relationship between electric current and magnetism. We will focus on the following vocabulary words: electromagnet, motor, and generator. In Math, we are working on Math 4 Today #12. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday. This week, our standard in focus continues with fractions, but concentrates on equivalent fractions. There are several great video clips that go along with this. Please allow your student to review the videos at home if you wish: https://jr.brainpop.com/math/fractions/equivalentfractions/? http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/math/fractions/equiv-fractions.htm Dojo reports, graded test papers, and 3rd grade newsletters are being sent home today. Please be sure to sign them and return them when we come back to school on Wednesday. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks so much for your support and for sharing your children with me!
