Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! This week's homework can be found on the agenda page below. Please remember that you can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the photo. In Science, we are finishing up chapter 2 with several hands-on investigations and also vocabulary review. Tomorrow, students will complete the lesson 4 check up with their groups for a classwork grade. On Wednesday, they will investigate electromagnets by building their own with insulated wire, a bolt, and a D-cell battery. Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to vocabulary review with Quizlet and completing our Chapter 2 Study Guide. Our Chapter 2 test will be next Tuesday.
This week in math, we are working on Math 4 Today #13. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual. We are also going to begin our standard focus on representing multiplication. Through our core bites and math 4 today practice, we have already started learning how to multiply by 0s, 1s, 2s, and 10s. We will slowly begin to work other fact strands. After Christmas, we will begin the "Turner Timed Tests" where Assistant Principal, Mrs. Turner, will come in to test them on 100 facts in 5 minutes. Students who are able to score 100% on this test will be recognized at the end of the years as a Kiwanis Multiplication Medalist. We will learn several skip counting songs to help them memorize the tricky facts. Students should be encouraged to MEMORIZE the facts rather than having to count on their fingers or draw arrays. The more you allow them to practice at home, the more successful they will be! There are several great apps for multiplication fact practice or old fashioned flashcards are also great. You can print practice tests to help them study as well.
