Hello! This week's homework can be found on the agenda pages below. Students have their Dojo Reports, graded papers, school picture proofs, vision screening results, and 3rd grade newsletter in their mail folder today. Please be sure to review this, sign it and return it tomorrow.
In math this week, we are working on comparing fractions and understanding equivalent fractions. This can be a difficult concept for 3rd graders, but we will continue practicing this until they get it. We are working on Math 4 Today Week #7. We will complete the study guide together in class on Thursday and our test will be on Friday as usual.
This is a big week in science, as we have completed our Chapter 1 study on Matter and heat. We will do several review activities this week to prepare for their Chapter test on Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday, students will use this review passage to complete a matter flipbook. This information can be used as review for the test. We will also complete a practice test in class on Thursday and go over it together. Students can use this test as their study guide Thursday night. This is a good bit of information, so I encourage students to begin studying now rather than waiting until Thursday night to cram. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help out in any way!

A few things to remember:
Please let me know if you have any further questions! I am looking forward to a great week of learning! The homework for the week is posted on the agenda page above. Please remember that we check homework each day and if the students fails to complete it or does not have it at school, they must sit their recess. "Monday mail" is being sent home today with the third grade newsletters, several school alerts, lunch notices (if applicable), and their Dojo reports. Please be sure to sign the Dojo reports and return them tomorrow. If you have not already connected to Dojo, please use the code on the app and do so as soon as possible.
In Math, we are focusing on rounding and place value this week. Students completed pretest that allowed me to analyze their previous knowledge and we are working this week to refine these skills. We have also started our weekly folder work. Students now have a RED, YELLOW, and BLUE folder for me. These should not be completed at home, however, they do stay in their backpacks to ensure they have them each day in class. The red folder is for our standards/skill practice. The work we are completing in it is related to rounding and place value right now. Our Yellow folder is the Math 4 Today folder. We complete a section each day in class, complete the study guide together on Thursday, and have a Math 4 Today test each Friday. Since I expect students to review for this test on Thursday night, students do not have a math journal page to complete on Thursday nights. The blue folder is for core bites and we complete a section each day in class with this as well. After every 15 Core Bites sections, we complete a study guide together and have a test the following day. Anytime I send home a study guide and the student reviews it with their parents, verified by a parent signature, I award them with 5 bonus points on the test. Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding this week's instruction. I hope you enjoy some of the pictures below from our STEM Activity last week related to Rosie Revere Engineer. Greetings! At the beginning of each week, I will email you with important information regarding the week of learning. All email information is posted on this blog, so that you can reference back to it in the even you delete or misplace the email. You will also notice that there are tabs for parent and student sites that you may also reference as needed. Please remember that we will have 3 sessions of orientation presentations tonight at 4, 4:45, and 5:30. We will explain all of the details in depth to help you better adjust to WES.
Students also received the "Third Grade Tweets" newsletter. An electronic copy can be found below: Students also received their first weekly Dojo Report with their Dojo Dollars attached. The Dojo Report should be signed and returned tomorrow -- students can earn dojo points for returning their signed report on time.
In math, our focus is rounding this week. Our third grade standard states that students should be able to round to the nearest 10 and 100. Students completed our first pre-test today with place-value, rounding, addition, and subtraction. The results of this pre-test will enable me to make appropriate small groups and direct our whole group instruction for these standards. Students will record their pre-test scores in their data folder -- and later at the end of the unit, do the same for their post-test score. so that we can see their growth and progress. Students can review these topics at home by viewing the following Brain Pop, Jr activities (please email me if you need the login and password): Rounding - https://jr.brainpop.com/math/numbersense/rounding/ Addition - jr.brainpop.com/math/additionandsubtraction/basicadding/ jr.brainpop.com/math/additionandsubtraction/addingandsubtractingtens/ jr.brainpop.com/math/additionandsubtraction/addingwithregrouping/ Subtraction - jr.brainpop.com/math/additionandsubtraction/basicsubtraction/ https://jr.brainpop.com/math/additionandsubtraction/subtractingwithregrouping/ https://jr.brainpop.com/math/additionandsubtraction/subtractingwithoutregrouping/ Place Value - jr.brainpop.com/math/numbersense/comparingnumbers/ https://jr.brainpop.com/math/numbersense/placevalue/ In Science, we are introducing STEM and focusing on engineering. We are using the book Rosie Revere, Engineer. Students can view the read-aloud again at home if they wish. We will discuss the meaning of engineer and students will complete a STEM (Science, Technology, Engeinnering, and Mathematics) activity to construct their own loop plane. Students can also review the meaning of engineer by viewing the following videos:
