Happy New Year, everyone! Oh how I have missed these kiddos! They have been AMAZING learners today -- I am so proud of their intense focus as we return from break. In Science, we are studying fossils this week. We will not have a "formal assessment" on this information, however, students will complete an assignment on Friday for a grade. Today, we read the PASS coach that goes along with fossils (behind their science tab of their binder), watched a Brain Pop, Jr video ( https://jr.brainpop.com/science/land/fossils/), and conducted a simulated fossil dig on the Promethean board (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/seamonsters/virtualdig/). They absolutely LOVED this and were 100% engaged. I had to promise them that I would provide the link so that they could do it again from home. Tomorrow we have a Watershed called "Them Bones" that will further explore fossils. Students will actually be able to sift for fossils and everyone is guaranteed to take home their very own fossil. Please be sure to send in $1 for your child to attend! For our fossil assessment, students will use iPads to work through the Study Island lesson on fossils and complete the assignment questions together with their group. Students will be given individual scores for this assignment. In math this week, we are continuing our focus on multiplication. This week we will introduce 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication. We spent a great amount of time during class today practicing this, so they should be able to complete their homework with no trouble. Encourage students to continue studying their basic facts with flascards, apps, timed tests, etc. Our next "Turner Timed Test" will be on January 27th. Students have their last test saved behind their math tab in their binder. They should work improve their score each time we test., The Math 4 Today study sheet, 3rd grade newsletter, and homework sheet can all be downloaded below. Report cards will be issued tomorrow. Please sign them and return on Thursday. Please let me know if you have any further questions!
