Hello, everyone!
Today has been operation organize day! We have been STRUGGLING to keep our binders organized so that we can utilize the information and resources inside easily during class. The school saved the day and purchased each 3rd grade student a set of new dividers. Today, I met with each students and helped them organize their binder! I think they are all feeling much better about their materials now! In Science, we are working in our unit on matter. We will not have a test on this until next week, but I went ahead and distributed flashcards today so that they can begin to study. ( https://quizlet.com/_1nrsjl )
Links that will be used in class are provided in the event your child wants to explore more from home! http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/8_9/solid_liquids.shtml
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/9_10/gases.shtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/9_10/changing_state.shtml We will do several other activities throughout the week exploring the different properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Students are responsible for knowing the difference in measurable and observable properties. We will discuss color, size, luster, texture, odor, temperature (warm/cold to touch) as observable properties and mass, volume, temperature, and length as measurable properties. We will not have an assessment on this until next week. http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/matter/ In math, we are beginning to study data analysis. We will concentrate on pictographs and bar graphs this week. The DREAM sheet (homework) is reflective of what we will do in class. Please remember this is due on Friday!
We will also begin working with multiplication a little this week. We will begin with the 0s, 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. These should all be "easy" for them, as they discussed them in 2nd grade and have experience counting by multiples of each. We will not begin timed tests yet, but it's always a good idea to start practicing early to get a head start!
Our third grade newsletter is below. Please be aware that our awards program is tomorrow at 8:15am in the cafeteria.
As usual. Dojo reports and graded test papers will be sent home today. Please sign these and return them tomorrow. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns! I hope everyone has a great week!!!
