Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a great LONG weekend. We will be playing "catch up" this week, as Mock testing and the snow day got us a little off schedule. We will begin on our science unit on landforms and bodies of water. Students will have trading cards with illustrations and definitions of each landform and body of water they are responsible for. Our assessment on this information will not be until next week. We have already started our new unit in Math on area and perimeter. Students completed their assessment on measurement and line plots today in class and we have already started practicing with area and perimeter. Their DREAM homework sheet with be problems practicing this skill. Remind them that Area is the space inside and will always be units^2 -- I find the area by multiplying the length x width. Perimeter is the distance around the outside of the space and will always be a simple unit like inches, centimeters, yards, meters, etc. -- I find the perimeter by adding up the sides. There are many wonderful videos and tutorials for area and perimeter as well.https://jr.brainpop.com/math/measurement/area/ https://jr.brainpop.com/math/measurement/perimeter/ http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/math/measurement/perimeter.htm There is also a great lesson and game on Math Playground:http://www.mathplayground.com/area_perimeter.html We will stick with Math 4 Today #20. Students should have these completed already, but we will review them and complete the study guide on Wednesday and Thursday. I have attached it for your convenience, along with the DREAM sheet.
We will also have another Turner Timed Test this Wednesday! We have been practicing in class and students are aware of their score when she came in December. Their goal should be to beat their previous score. (Their December test should be in their binders behind the Math tab if you would like to review it with your child -- if you are unable to locate it, let me know and I can send you their score.) Below is a picture from the December Turner Timed Test. Students loved having Mrs. Turner in the room and getting their scores back from her! I think this was a great motivation for them to do their very best! Please remember to complete the survey provided by the School Improvement Council. It is very brief -- only 6 questions and you can use the following link to access the survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/X3BTPCR
Our 3rd grade newsletter is below. Graded test papers and Dojo reports will be sent home today. Please let us know if you have any further questions!
