Good morning! Below you will find this week's homework and third grade newsletter. You can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the agenda photo. Newsletters, graded papers, and Dojo Reports will be in their Mail folder today. Please remember to sign these and return them tomorrow.
Our end of year testing, SC Ready, will be 100% online testing this year. In order to better prepare for this transition, we will administer our first Chapter 1 Science test as an online test through Pearson Realize. Since I have enough iPads for a 1:1 student:technology ratio, we will test in our classroom on the iPads. (Other 3rd grade classes will use the laptop mobile lab and visit the BMW computer labs.) I will print and share their results with you, just as we do with other written tests. They will be sent home via their Monday Mail next week. Upon completion of this assessment, we will begin introducing our next Chapter on Electricity and Magnetism
In Math this week, we will be working on Math 4 Today #7 with an assessment on Friday. We will complete and review study guides on Thursday in class. Remember if you sign your child's study guide verifying you have studied with them, they earn an additional 5 points on their test! Today in class, we are working on checking our work with the opposite operation. For example, if I complete the problem 862 - 489 = 373, I can check my work by adding my answer to the number I subtracted and if my sum matches the top number of my subtraction problem, I know I am correct -- 373 + 489 = 862. Students will be able to earn bonus point on their Quick Check Quizzes if they show where they have checked their work! We will also introduce the skill of multiplying by multiples of 10 this week. Since we haven't covered basic multiplication facts yet, they will learn how to use a 100s multiplication chart to find the answer of the basic fact. Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding this week. I know this was a good bit of information, but I wanted to be sure you all were aware of everything going on and the resources available. I hope everyone has a great week!
