Good morning! DREAM homework sheet, Third Grade Newsletter, and Multiplication Log are attached. I have also attached the field trip permission slip – money is due by THIS Friday (14th). In Science, we will continue our study of adaptations. We are a little behind with plant adaptations, but we will catch up tomorrow and then finish the week with animal adaptations. I have included the PASS Coach that goes along with these lessons. We will do several activities with camouflage, hibernation, and migration this week. Students will be required to know the difference between a physical adaptation (When the body of a living thing changes to allow the animal to survive in its environment) and behavioral adaptation (Things a living thing does in order to survive in its environment). I am also including the links again to the Study Jams and Brain Pop: http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/camouflage/preview.weml http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/hibernation/preview.weml http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/migration/preview.weml http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/plants/plantadaptations/preview.weml http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/animals/animal-adaptations.htm http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/plants/plant-adaptations.htm Our test on plant and animal adaptations will be next Friday. I will send home a study guide next week. In Math, we are working on area. We will discuss using our multiplication skills to find the area of a shape, but we will also talk about sub-dividing shapes to find area. This has shown up on Study Island and always gives them trouble! I am including an explanation so that you can see what they are expected to do. We will practice this on our DREAM sheet this week, also. The Study Jams clip below is an excellent explanation as well. Don’t worry about the “Watch Out” section, though, since 3rd graders are not required to know how to find the area of a triangle. http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/math/measurement/area-irregular-figures.htm We are working on Math 4 Today Week #23 with an assessment on Friday. Dojo reports and graded test papers will come home today. Please be sure to sign them and return them tomorrow. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Special thanks to Rebecca Morin for sharing the photo of Gavin with me. She said, “Sunday morning feeding time…While one bird sat on the baby keeping it warm the other parent brought in food (small bird) then left again. The parent that was sitting on the baby then proceeded to feed the baby! All my kids sat and watched in amazement. What a great experience to watch!!!” I’ve been keeping the Eagle Cam up as we work on our Monday Math today. The kids are mesmerized! The link again is: http://www.berry.edu/eaglecam/ if you want to view it from home. Have a marvelous Monday!
