Good morning! Let me begin by saying how truly blessed I am to have each of your children in class. I have already fallen in love with each of them and I know that love will only grow more and more each day as I get to know them better. A few important reminders… · At WES, we do not have “cubbies”, nor do we have “desks” that we can store things in, which means that their backpack is their main device of storage. They need their binders, homework folders, agendas, crayons, and scissors in their backpack at all times. This will enable us to use them both at school AND at home. If your child comes to school without their binder (for example), they are unable to fully participate and record important information, so they will lose a Dojo point for being unprepared. · We are beginning our math homework this week. Each student has a log inside a Ziploc pouch (HUGE shout out to Micah Kelley, Connor’s mom, for putting all of these together for me.) with their flashcards in the front of their binder. They are responsible for practicing and attaining a signature 3 days each week. When I check logs on Friday, if they do not have 3 days completed, they will receive a homework strike. Per our school rules, no homework also results in no recess. · Every Monday, we will distribute graded test papers and attach them to your child’s Dojo report (this will reflect behavior from the previous week). Please be sure to sign these and return them the following day (Tuesday). · Ms. Mitchell also wanted me to mention that library visits will begin next Monday. Students will be allowed to check out 2 books. If they finish these before our next scheduled visit, they will be allowed to return in free time to swap out their books. · We started MAP testing today in the Math Lab. Students will work on their MAP test on our designated computer lab days (Monday – Math, Thursday – Reading) for the next 3 weeks. Please join us in encouraging them to take their time and do their very best! In math, we are working on Week 2 of their Math 4 Today (inside their binder). We will do these in class and go over them together. Each Friday, we will have a test on this material. When you study these with your child on Thursday, be sure to sign their sheet for 5 bonus points on the test! Aside from Math 4 Today, we will be working on rounding in our Interactive Notebooks. Students are required to round to the nearest 10 and 100. Brain Pop, Jr. offers a great tutorial that may be helpful for your student to watch again from home: https://jr.brainpop.com/math/numbersense/rounding/ Please email me if you would like login/pw information. In science, we are completing our first scientific investigation involving jumping spiders and we will also explore tools used in Science. Students will have hands on practice with these tools, along with several activities learning their names. We will have a quiz on the tools on Friday. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. All documents for the week are attached for your convenience. Be sure to keep an eye on our class website {3-burnette.weebly.com} for updates and pictures of our learning throughout the week!
