Hello! The School Improvement Council has asked me to share the following information...... In an effort to improve communication between school and home, please take a few minutes to complete a 6 question survey. Use the following link to access the short survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/X3BTPCR You child has a flyer with this information as well. I am also sending home important information regarding the science fair. Those documents can be downloaded below. Third graders are not required to complete a project, however, they will receive extra credit if they choose to participate.
Today, we met and worked on our new data pyramids. Each testing window, we work with students to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. Students identify a topic at which they are "great", "Ok", "Almost get", and "Don't know how". With each of these areas, they then identify strategies for continuing to improve and grow with the topic they selected. We then display the pyramids across the front of our room -- students, teachers, administrators, and guests can then view them. I am always amazed at the students' awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. They are always extremely accurate! In Science this week, we are finishing up our discussion on fossils and moving on to discuss natural resources. Students will complete a reading comprehension with this information as a classwork grade for this unit. Brain Pop, Jr. has a great video that discusses natural resources: https://jr.brainpop.com/science/conservation/naturalresources/ In Math, we will continue practicing our multiplication facts, but we are moving on to focus more on measuring to the nearest 1/4 inch. On Wednesday, we will begin using those measurements to create and organize a line plot of the data. LearnZillion has a great lesson that reviews both of these concepts: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/6309-collect-and-display-measurement-data The DREAM sheet will also practice both of these skills
We are working on Math 4 Today #19 this week. Our assessment will be on Friday as usual. I have included the study sheet above for your convenience. We will complete these in class on Wednesday. Third grade newsletter can be found below. Please pay attention to upcoming events. Our 2nd 9 Weeks awards program will be tomorrow at 8:15am in the cafeteria. Please also make note that we are out of school next Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Please let me know if you have any further questions and/or comments. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
