Good afternoon. Please accept my apologies for the delay with my Monday message. This week's homework can be found below. Please remember that you can download an additional copy of the homework by clicking on the agenda photo. Third grade newsletter, Dojo reports, and graded test papers were sent home today. Please be sure to sign them and return them tomorrow.
This week in Science, are are continuing our review of Chapter 1. We will have our chapter assessment NEXT TUESDAY. Students will receive a copy of the study guide on Wednesday and we will do different activities in class to review. We are using the online feature of our textbook for testing in order to prepare students for our statewide testing at the end of the year, which will also be online. In Math, we are working on subtraction with borrowing. We are also working on Math 4 Today #6 with the assessment on Friday. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns!

Our data pyramids are complete! I enjoyed conferencing with the students while they completed the cut/paste activity. Students were aware of their areas of weakness as well as their strengths. Students identified a skill for the following areas:
We were also able to complete our stars for the hallway data boards. These boards are broken down into 3 categories: approaching expectations, meeting expectations, and exceeding expectations. Students created a personalized star that only they can recognize to track their progress on MAP testing. Each testing window, we will move their stars to the appropriate category. It is our goal that by Spring testing, all of our stars will be in either the meeting or exceeding categories. Student agendas have also been updated with their previous and current scores and percentile. I have also included their goal score for our next testing window in Winter. It would be greatly appreciated if you would have a conversation with your student about their Dream Card in their agenda. (Pg. 15) This conversation will help them understand that we are all working together as a team and we are all on the same page. I want them to know you are aware of their scores and goals -- not just me! Thank you for all you do and your continued support of your child's education. I cannot wait to watch them grow throughout the year!
Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! This week's homework can be found below. You can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the agenda picture. In Science this week, we are finishing up our chapter on Matter. We have several inquiry activities for them to complete in preparation for our chapter test next week. Also, please remember that students should continue studying their vocabulary words. There are some fabulous resources students can use to review through the chapter. Some are video clips and others are virtual labs. We are working on Math 4 Today Week #5 with an assessment on Friday. Please remember that if you sign the study sheet that you have studied with your student, they get 5 bonus points.
Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Homework assignments can be found below. You can download an additional copy of the homework sheets by clicking on the agenda photo.
This week in math we are working on Math 4 Today #4. Our assessment will be on Friday, as usual. We are also focusing on addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. We have been working on this every day in class, focusing on the proper procedures from borrowing and carrying. Most mistakes I am seeing now are simple careless mistakes. After Wednesday, I will begin teaching them how to check their work with the opposite operation. For example if I have the problem 500 - 349, I solve and get the answer 151, I can check it by adding 151 + 349. If I get 500 as my answer, I know I am correct. With addition problems, they will check with subtraction. i.e. 429 + 433 = 862.....to check, 862 - 433 = 429. If you are interested, you can create and print extra practice worksheets at the following website: http://www.math-aids.com/Mixed_Problems/Mixed_Problems_Worksheets_MV.html In Science, we are continuing with Chapter 1. This week we will focus on the states of matter and how they change. Please remember to continue studying all of the chapter 1 vocabulary. Students have vocabulary cards in a ziplock back. They can also study using Quizlet. https://quizlet.com/_1n8u6f Videos for review: https://jr.brainpop.com/science/matter/solidsliquidsandgases/? http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/matter/solids-liquids-gases.htm
This will be very important for them to remember this week as we talk about boiling point and freezing point. They are required to know both the °C and °F.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I am looking forward to another awesome week of learning! Thanks for sharing your children with me! I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. This week's homework can be found on the agenda page below:
This week in math, we are concentrating on addition with regrouping. We will review the proper steps and practice the addition algorithm. We are working on Math 4 Today #3 and our test will be on Friday.
Please be sure to sign Dojo reports tonight. Their math tests are not in their graded papers, as I left my paper stack at home on the kitchen table! (Negative Dojo for me!) I will save them and send them home with next week's papers. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this entails. Remember that you can contact me anytime via phone or email and I will be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. I am really enjoying having your children for math and science! Have a great afternoon!
We are currently in lesson 3 of 4 in our first Science chapter. Today, students cut out the vocabulary cards at the end of the chapter and placed them in a ziplock bag. We have not completed all of the lessons, so some of these words are unfamiliar to them, however, I thought it would be beneficial for them to go ahead and begin studying them.
Today in class, students recorded the definitions to create QR codes for our hallway. I'm super excited with how this turned out!
I am attaching the photos in a gallery for you to see, as well. I have also created the vocabulary in Quizlet for students to study digitally. You can do several activities at the following link: https://quizlet.com/_1n8u6f or the flashcards are embedded at the bottom of this message.
