Happy Monday, everyone! Connor pointed out to me that tomorrow is our Friday! :) I'm sure everyone is ready for a well deserved break. I know I'm ready for some pecan pie! We will not have any homework this week, nor will I be sending home graded test papers. I will hold these until we return on the 30th. Our 3rd grade newsletter can be found below. Please reference it for any information. The menu was switched up this morning -- we will have Monday's menu tomorrow. As you can see from the calendar on our newsletter, we began our Winter MAP testing today. I actually went into the lab with both classes today to monitor their progress. They were all working very hard! I am anxious to see how well they do! They will return to the lab on Monday & Thursday of the next 3 weeks. Please stress to your child the importance of this test. Remind them to take their time, work out all problems, and take notes where needed. In Science this week, we are continuing our study of rocks, minerals, and soils. Students will learn about the three types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. We will also learn about the different soil types: sand, silt, clay, and humus. There are some excellent Brain Pop videos that go along with this unit: https://jr.brainpop.com/science/land/rocksandminerals/ https://jr.brainpop.com/science/land/soil/ We will also simulate a lab to determine rock types and another lab to examine and compare the different soil types. We are also learning a song to help us remember the properties of rocks, the 3 different types, and how they are formed. I have attached the words and a link for your student to practice at home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3YjBP5MYTY Once they get it down pat, I will record them and share!
This week we will introduce the 6s, so students will now be responsible for 0s, 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, and 10s.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

This week's newsletter can be found below. Please review it for important information. This week in Science, we will complete our unit on Heat & Matter. Students will be tested on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. We plan to split the material into two grades -- vocabulary on Wednesday and then content/multiple choice questions on Thursday. I will send home the study guide tomorrow and students already have all of their vocabulary words from Quizlet. Links to both are provided below:
Students can also use the Flipquiz I created to study the material: http://flipquiz.me/review/50661 On Friday, we will begin our new unit on Rocks & Minerals. In Math, we are working on multiplication. At this point, we have focused on the 0s, 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. This week, we will introduced the 3s and 4s. We are working to learn all strands and pass a timed test by December 14. Mrs. Turner will come around to administer a "Turner Timed Test" that she will grade and return with feedback. As your child about Kahoot...
We played today to review our Science material for our upcoming test. They were 110% engaged and excited about learning. From our preliminary results today, I think they will do great on our test next week Unfortunately Kahoot is an interactive activity, so they can't use it to review from home.
They can, however, use the Flipquiz I created to study the material: http://flipquiz.me/review/50661
We plan to split the material into two grades -- vocabulary on Wednesday and then content/multiple choice questions on Thursday.
I will send home the study guide next Tuesday and students already have all of their vocabulary words from Quizlet. Links to both are provided below:
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
Greetings! I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful weekend! Below you will find our third grade newsletter. Please be sure to read it for important information. In Science, we will continue working with our unit on heat and matter. Our test is tentatively set for next Wednesday. Please be sure that students are reviewing all of their vocabulary words. https://quizlet.com/_w850x In Math, we are working on Math 4 Today #13. The study sheet is provided below:
Math 4 Today Week 12 assessment is being returned to students today, attached to their DREAM sheet. Students should make corrections on the reverse side and pick one questions to explain their mistake. This is due back to school tomorrow (Tuesday). Students that are unable to make corrections tonight for homework will be allowed to work on it tomorrow during recess. Our DREAM sheet for the week is also attached below.
Math Cards ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/math-cards-!-!/id463193339?mt=8 ) is an excellent app to download for electronic practice on any device. Times Tables Game ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/times-tables-game-multiplication/id651220703?mt=_8 ) is also great because it allows you to practice them by strands.
We will not begin graded timed test until all strands have been introduced. This week will will only focus on 0s, 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. As usual, graded test papers and Dojo reports will be sent home today. Please return these tomorrow. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks so much for your continued support in your child's education!
Sources of heat vs. Insulators -- clearing up common misconceptions!
Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Please be reminded that there is no school tomorrow, as we are off for Election Day. We are holding graded test papers until Wednesday, so that no one forgets about them while off tomorrow. Our newsletter is below -- please be sure to read important information within. You will notice in the agenda that homework has changed a little. Students will still have their DREAM sheet, but beginning this week, every Monday they will have an added assignment of correcting their Math 4 Today tests. n additional copy of the test has been ran on the backside. Students should correct problems that they missed and then choose one to explain WHY they missed it in complete sentences. We are hoping that this practice will make students more aware of their mistakes and prevent them from making the same mistakes repeatedly. If a student misses one of the basic facts, they must write it correctly 10 times. (All of these instructions can be found at the top of their paper.) If your child did not miss any, they do not have to do anything on the back. If a student fails to complete this for homework, they will be allowed to complete it during recess on the following day. In math this week, we are continuing to work on collecting, organizing, and interpreting data. We are practicing surveying each other to create pictographs and bar graphs and then interpreting the graphs to answer questions. We are also working on Math 4 Today, Week 12. Our assessment will be on Friday as usual. An additional copy of the study sheet can be found below.
An additional copy of the DREAM sheet can also be found above.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I look forward to another great week of learning! |
