As you know, our class attended the Watershed Ecology session today. Today’s lesson was titled “Marsh Munchers”. Students learned about the brackish water of the marsh by mixing the freshwater with the salt water of the ocean. They also learned about food chains and food webs. We learned new vocabulary terms such as: herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, producers, first consumers, apex consumers, and decomposers. Students then constructed their own marsh food chains. And learned an awesome food chain chant! Ben was the student leader for my homeroom, and Julie led for Ms. Mitchell’s homeroom. They both did a great job! Although we have not learned about food chains yet, this was a great introduction. We will complete our food chain unit in January after we learn about habitats. There is an awesome website link on the student page of my website (http://3-burnette.weebly.com/student-sites.html) called “The Food Chain Game” that is a great review of the things we discussed today. There is also a great Brain Pop, Jr. video that goes along with it (http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/foodchain/).
